Another loyal Timbuk2 fan recently got smashed by a car (grrr!) but her Timbuk2 messenger (and ecology textbook) miraculously saved her life! Read her unbelievable story below. Kaitlyn, you are a badass and we are so thrilled you are healthy! Thank you for sharing your story.
I just wanted to personally thank Timbuk2 for making excellent messenger bags. My Timbuk2 saved my life.
I am a student at the University of Iowa. I was biking home from the library last month in Iowa City, Iowa and was hit by a car that ran a red light (he was looking for his cellphone that he had dropped). I previously wore my helmet about 90% of the time I am biking. Unfortunately, I forgot my helmet at home that rainy Sunday. My Timbuk2, and my ecology book inside, flipped up during the impact and acted like a cushion for my head when I landed on the pavement 15 feet away from the accident. The paramedics kept telling me how lucky I was that my bag moved up and protected my head. They also kept telling me that if my bag hadn’t been there I would have either been in a coma or dead. I still suffered a severe concussion, but the concussion has an easier recovery that a coma.
Anytime that I am asked about my accident, I always bring up the Timbuk2. Personally, I think the messenger bag design, one strap allowing it to flip, instead of slide, was crucial to its lifesaving capacity. I am now going to buy my brother a Timbuk2 for Christmas. He rides his bike to work everyday. I figure, if it saved my life, then it may also do more for him than just carry his gear around. Ultimately, I want you guys to know that I think Timbuk2′s are kick-ass bags and you’ve got a solid design for riding bikes.
Thank you Timbuk2.
