Bubbleways in Sydney

It’s a simple equation.

Exercise balls + ballistic nylon + San Francisco manufacturing = Sydney art installation

Rebar Bubbleway Laneways 2011

Need us to break the equation down? Here it goes: Local design and manufacturers Timbuk2 and Rebar Group work comfortably together in the red brick building on Shotwell at 20th Street in San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood. They run into each other at graffiti painting parties and salad and sunshine sessions and do lots of on-bike waving. So when Rebar cooked up an incredible idea for an art installation in Sydney, Australia’s Laneways Art Project, they turned to Timbuk2 for support. We cut and sewed giant, custom ballistic nylon covers for their Bubbleways chairs and couches that are in-use in Sydney laneways now.
